Description
Mid-century Moroccan Beni Ourain Rugs were handwoven by the women in villages of the Middle Atlas Mountain region of Morocco. This plush cream and brown, plush wool rug was made with a long heavy pile. Due to the harsh climate of the mountains thick rugs were used as warm bedding, sleeping mats, and floor covering. Vintage, one-of-a-kind handmade, Beni Ourain rugs are often woven to be reversible with a long pile on one side and flat surface on the opposite side.
Weaving rugs is one of the oldest Moroccan traditions and it is truly an art form. Each rug tells a unique story told by the weaver using specific symbols or colors. The techniques and symbols used by the weaver were passed down generation to generation. While the rugs were used to protect the body from the elements they were also meant to protect the spirit from negative energy.
CARE
